Mount Greenwood Post Office To Be Named After Fallen Firefighter
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A longtime Chicago firefighter who died in the line of duty last year is going to have a South Side post office named in his honor.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports Captain Herbie Johnson spent more than three decades with the Chicago Fire Department. He died last November while fighting a house fire in Englewood.
At his funeral, friends and family talked about a great guy who loved the job, and made everyone laugh.
"One bit of small advice to heaven; it is to watch out, because Herbie's coming, and heaven will never be the same," Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 President Tom Ryan said at Johnson's funeral in November.
Congressman Dan Lipinski (D-IL) has announced plans to name the Mount Greenwood post office – at 3349 W. 111th St. – after Johnson, to serve as a lasting tribute to the fallen firefighter.
