Motorist In Fatal Dan Ryan Crash Charged With Reckless Homicide
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man who ran away from a crash that killed his back seat passenger last weekend on the Dan Ryan Expressway has been charged with reckless homicide.
Raheem M. Dennard, 25, is charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries for the April 21st crash, a police source
said. On Friday, Dennard was ordered held on $400,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
The crash happened about 11 p.m. on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 47th Street. A 2004 Lincoln LS was traveling south at a high rate of speed when it
crashed through the guard rail near 47th Street, went up the grassy embankment, hit an electrical traffic box and came to rest on a retaining
wall, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Joe Stangl said.
One of the passengers, 26-year-old Deandre M. Phair of the 8400 block of South Marquette Avenue, was dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical
Examiner's office said.
Another man was also taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, fire officials said.
Dennard turned himself into Illinois State Police on April 24 and was identified by the surviving passenger as being the driver, the police source
said.
Dennard will appear for a preliminary hearing on May 15.
