Motorcyclist Injured In Crash On I-94
PORTAGE, Ind. (STMW) -- A three-vehicle crash sent a motorcyclist to the hospital Sunday afternoon on Interstate 94 near Porter, Ind.
A preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police showed that around 3:16 p.m. a 2013 GMC Yukon, driven by Timothy S. Pendell, 53, of Linden, Mich., was headed west in the center lane about two miles east of the Porter/Burns Harbor exit. The left lane of that stretch of I-94 is currently closed due to construction and it is marked as such.
Pendell slowed down or stopped his Yukon as traffic was slowing in front of him due to another three-vehicle crash that had occurred just west of this location.
Chicago Ridge resident Evelyn A. Bailye, 76, was driving behind the Yukon in a 2006 Buick when she saw the Yukon stop suddenly. She tried to stop in time, but her Buick hit the back of the Yukon.
Gary, Ind., resident Louis Brown Jr., 56, was driving his 2006 Yamaha motorcycle behind the Buick when he noticed the Buick stop suddenly. He tried to stop his motorcycle, but he hit the rear of the Buick and was ejected from his motorcycle. Brown landed on the interstate. He was wearing his helmet and he was taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso with non life-threatening injuries to his back and pelvis.
Pendell and Bailye were wearing seatbelts and they were not injured.
