Mother Charged With Fatally Stabbing Son In Ice Cream Fight
SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. (STMW) -- Bond was set at $750,000 Monday for a mother accused of killing her teenage son during an argument over ice cream, authorities said.
Robin Erwin, 31, was charged with first-degree murder for stabbing her son, 17-year-old Diontae Erwin, to death Sept. 7, Sauk Village police said in a statement.
Judge Darron Bowden set bond at $750,000 when Erwin appeared Monday in a Markham courthouse, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Diontae Erwin was stabbed at his home in the 1700 block of East 223rd Street in Sauk Village, according to the Lake County (Ind.) Coroner's office. He was pronounced dead at 12:41 p.m. at Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer, Ind., He died from a stab wound to the chest and his death was ruled a homicide.
Witnesses said the mother and son were arguing about ice cream at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 7 when the stabbing occurred, prosecutors claimed.
Robin Erwin called police and said her son walked into the knife, a claim that the coroner's office said was inconsistent with medical findings.
Larry Gray, 21, was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and violating parole, police said. Officers also seized about 130 grams of cannabis from the home.
Erwin is next scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 30, according to prosecutors.
