Morris Hospital Evacuates As Floodwaters Rise
MORRIS, Ill. (AP) -- A southwest suburban hospital has evacuated patients because of rising floodwaters from a nearby creek and the Illinois River.
Morris Hospital in Grundy County said on its website Thursday that the evacuation of 44 patients began around 2:30 p.m. and was expected to take up to six hours. The patients were being transported to hospitals in Joliet, Kankakee, New Lenox and Oak Lawn.
Hospital officials say they decided to evacuate after water from Nettle Creek began seeping into the basement and emergency management officials told them to expect additional flooding on Friday.
All outpatient testing and elective procedures scheduled at the main hospital for Friday have been cancelled. The emergency room remains open for walk-in patients through the main hospital entrance.
The hospital is about 60 miles southwest of Chicago.
