CHICAGO (CBS)  Morning rain showers wrap up Wednesday afternoon, clearing the way for a hotter day with high humidity.

We are tracking another storm system headed our way, forecast to produce another round of showers and thunderstorms that will be most widespread early Friday.

Ahead of that system, muggy humidity and warm temperatures are expected on the Fourth of July. This may fuel a few isolated late-day showers and thunderstorms, although rain is not expected to wash out many fireworks plans. Keep an eye on the sky, and when thunder roars, go indoors.

Following a dose of showers and thunderstorms on Friday, dry weather returns for holiday weekend plans on Saturday.

We are tracking Hurricane Beryl, which slammed Jamaica today as a powerful Category 4 storm.

The system's next target is Friday's resort towns on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, including Cancun. Over the weekend, the storm will emerge over the Gulf and likely strengthen, potentially impacting Texas.

Today: Rain showers exit. Hotter. High: 89

Tonight: Mostly cloudy and humid. Low: 72

Fourth of July: Mostly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms. High: 85

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly early. Breezy. High: 80
