2 Students Hospitalized After Substance Sprayed At Morgan Park High School; 3rd Incident In 6 Days

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two students were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, after someone sprayed an unknown substance at Morgan Park High School, the third such incident in less than a week.

Police said an unknown substance was sprayed in the hallway at Morgan Park High School around 12:10 p.m.

Two students were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition. A teacher who was sprayed refused medical treatment.

Chicago police referred to the spray as an aerosol irritant. They say the 15-year-old boy and girl were having trouble breathing but were treated and released at Little Company of Mary Hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Last week, police and fire crews were called to Morgan Park High School two days in a row -- on Thursday and Friday -- after students were sprayed with an aerosol irritant, possibly pepper spray or mace.

Two students went to the hospital after Thursday's incident. Nine students went to the hospital on Friday.

In the fall black smoke filled the halls of the same school after students set off fireworks inside, sending students running for cover. In that incident 10 were injured and one was hospitalized.

It happened again the next day.

Back then parents said they'd had it and called on administrators to make some serious changes.

CBS 2 reached out to administration at the high school. The principal, assistant principals and front office did not respond Tuesday night.

Chicago police say no one is in custody regarding the incident.
