Firefighters quickly learned the three story building in the 48 hundred block of North Lawndale was fully occupied. They arrived at just before 4:00am and found rear porches on fire. Everyone was able to evacuate, and on such a chilly morning, was fortunate to find the CTA providing warm buses on Lawrence Avenue.
In addition, Red Cross spokesperson Patricia Kemp says they fed the newly displaced residents.
"Our disaster action team responded to the scene and we are helping about four families and about two dozen people who were displaced by that fire," said Kemp.
No injuries were reported.
