CHICAGO (CBS) — Midday rain showers cleared the area on Tuesday afternoon, and warmer sunshine settled in.

A second wave of rain, this one more widespread, moves in as a weakening complex of thunderstorms overnight tonight. Rain and a few rumbles of thunder are likely, but we are not forecasting a severe weather threat locally.

Wednesday looks dry after an early-morning shower in northwest Indiana with high temperatures rising into the upper 80s. A few showers and thunderstorms capable of producing lightning and pockets of heavy rain return to the forecast on the Fourth of July, so keep an eye to the sky and when thunder roars, go indoors.

Widespread rain is likely again early Friday. Then we expect drier weather on Saturday.

Hurricane Beryl is churning toward Jamaica as the earliest category-five storm on record. Jamaica is under a Hurricane Warning as the system approaches, although some weakening is expected before landfall.
