More Frigid Weather Tuesday, Light Snow At Night
CHICAGO (CBS) -- It might not be as cold as Monday, but it is still plenty cold in Chicago on Tuesday, and a dusting of snow is possible before temperatures get back to normal for this time of year.
Unlike Monday morning, the temperature did not get below zero in Chicago early Tuesday, though it was at exactly zero for a couple hours overnight at O'Hare International Airport.
Tuesday's high was expected to reach about 15 degrees; better than Monday's high of 7, but still well below normal for mid-January, when the high is usually in the low 30s, according to the National Weather Service.
A large snow system passing though the Plains states was expected to pass south of the Chicago area overnight, and could create a dusting of snow in the area, likely less than half an inch. Any heavy snowfall likely will be well south of the Chicago area.
Temperatures should gradually improve over the course of the week, reaching the low 20s on Wednesday, the high 20s on Thursday, and the low to middle 30s over the weekend.
