"It's at a chronic level right now, where families are just seeing this need over and over, and they're experiencing it for a very long time," said Jarrod Daab, a a senior development officer with the St. Charles based food bank.

Daab said the organization is focused on receiving donations for holiday meal boxes, which will feed more than 27,000 families.

While there's always an increase in giving this time of year, Daab said he is hopeful that people don't stop after Jan. 1.

"The people that are out of work, they're not going to just find a job right off the bat once January comes, so they still need help," Daab said.
