Moratorium On Taxis In Des Plaines?
DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- The City of Des Plaines might put the brakes on taxicabs.
After a surge in applications, officials want to stop granting licenses for cabs temporarily.
Taxi companies are expressing more interest because a new casino is set to open in Des Plaines this July.
The city says it might need time to change the manner in which cabs are regulated and inspected.
Des Plaines officials also want to shift the licensing expiration date to June 30 from Dec. 31, so inspections can be conducted in the warmer months, TribLocal reported.
Earlier this year, the Des Plaines city council voted to cap the number of cabs at 170, TribLocal reported. The city reached that number in December.
