Mokena Cop Tased With Own Stun Gun
MOKENA, Ill. (CBS/STMW) -- A Mokena police officer was shocked with his own Taser stun gun during a confrontation early Sunday morning.
The incident happened after police saw James Abramowicz, 26, driving his Mustang and "doing burnouts" in the parking lot of 191 South, a restaurant and bar at 10160 W. 191st St. in Mokena, police said.
Employees at the restaurant ran outside and told police that Abramowicz was a former pizza delivery driver who had been screeching his tires in the parking lot.
Police stopped him in a nearby parking lot, where he refused to show them his driver's license. Abramowicz then ran from his car.
A second officer arrived and began chasing him up a hill in a wooded area shouting "Taser, Taser" and demanding he stop. Abramowicz cursed at the officer and kept running. Both men fell as they ran up the hill and the second officer ordered Abramowicz onto his stomach. Instead, Abramowicz grabbed the Taser with both hands and tried to pull it away.
During the ensuing struggle, the Taser went off, causing both men to receive a shock, police said.
The officer then Tased Abramowicz a second time in the lower back and was able to handcuff him. At the police station, Abramowicz congratulated himself for his actions, telling police, "At least I had the (guts) to try to get the Taser from the officer instead of taking a shock like a (sissy)," according to a police report.
Abramowicz, 14748 S. Cricketwood Court in Homer Glen, was charged with battery, disarming a police officer, resisting a peace officer, disobeying a peace officer and fleeing police. He was also ticketed for DUI , reckless driving, illegal screeching of tires and no insurance.
