Hoffman Estates Man Dead After Motorcycle Crash
UPDATE: 2:55 p.m. Aug. 18, 2015
(STMW) -- A Hoffman Estates man who was reported missing Sunday after attending the Air & Water Show in Chicago died in a motorcycle crash, an autopsy Tuesday found.
Steven Sanchez, 50, had last been seen about 8 p.m. Saturday near Burnham Harbor after watching the show, according to Hoffman Estates police.
His motorcycle was discovered a half hour later in the Loop near I-290 and I-94, authorities said. Police checked the area, but could not find the driver at the time and deemed the crash a hit-and-run.
A construction worker found Sanchez's body near an expressway ramp close to that location about noon Monday, ISP Master Sgt. Dominick Falcone said. Police believe he was thrown from the crash into that area.
The initial crash did not involve any other vehicles, and authorities do not believe a passenger was on the motorcycle, ISP said.
An autopsy Tuesday found he died of multiple injuries from a motorcycle striking a fixed object, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
