Missing Glencoe Man Died Of Cold Exposure
NORTHBROOK, Ill. (STMW) -- A man found dead Saturday morning who was identified as a missing person from Glencoe died from heart disease and cold exposure, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office ruled Sunday.
The body of the man — since identified as the 82-year-old Harvey Caplin — was found about 10 a.m. Saturday on the Edens Expressway near north suburban Northbrook, on Illinois Tollway property, according to Glencoe public safety officials and the medical examiner's office.
Caplin died from coronary atherosclerosis, with cold exposure listed as a secondary cause. His death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's.
Glencoe public safety personnel and about 70 volunteers mounted a lengthy search for Caplin, who was last seen by his wife about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 21 as he walked away from his home near Dundee Road and Forestway Drive, the Pioneer Press reported at the time.
Contract landscapers from a nearby Jewish community center noticed the body in the grass Saturday near the expressway while working along the fence line, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Ed Petrik.
The Bernard Weinger Jewish Community Center is located near the expressway in the 300 block of Revere Drive.
