Miserable Weather For Much Of Midwest
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The weather is nothing short of miserable in Chicago, but the situation is even worse for some of our Midwestern neighbors.
In Indiana, people were waking up Tuesday morning to near white-out conditions. A heavy snow-band hit parts of the state, dropping about up to 4 inches in some areas by about 5:30 a.m.
Indianapolis CBS affiliate WISH-TV reported dozens of cars slid off the roads overnight. As in much of the Midwest, the snow is turning to freezing drizzle as dawn approaches.

In parts of Wisconsin Tuesday morning, snowy streets made for a messy commute. Around LaCrosse, forecasters say 2 to 5 more inches of snow is expected to fall throughout the day, as temperatures hover in the high 20s.
In Madison, the problem was slick roads. A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of Wisconsin until 9 a.m., and ice was forming a sheet over 2 to 5 inches of existing snow.
CBS affiliate WISC-TV says Madison city street crews lay anti-icing material on the main roads Monday night, but side streets will not be plowed, since less than 3 inches of snow are expected.
Highway officials in the Madison area warn that roads will be slippery in many areas.
The weather also caused problems for football fans heading to and from the Bears-Vikings game in Minneapolis Monday night. The snow brought traffic to a standstill in the Twin Cities, as more than 80,000 people packed the highways to attend the football game, and the Minnesota Wild hockey game across the river in St. Paul, WCCO-TV reported.
Also in Minnesota, several jackknifed semi-trucks forced a stretch of Interstate 94 in St. Joseph to close Monday afternoon, WCCO reported.
Light freezing drizzle is expected for much of the day Tuesday in Minneapolis, with little or no ice accumulation.
Back home in Chicago, motorists were sliding off the roads into ditches, as freezing drizzle fell on top of the snow that blanketed the area Monday night.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for all of northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana.
