Minnie Minoso Fails To Get Into Hall Of Fame
(CBS) While Cubs legend Ron Santo was finally elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Monday, the news wasn't as good for White Sox legend Minnie Minoso.
The former outfielder failed to get elected into the Hall by the Golden Era Committee, only earning nine votes. He needed 12 votes to get elected.
"I'm stunned," White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf told the Chicago Tribune. "I really thought he'd get (all) 16 votes. But I wasn't in the room. I didn't hear the deliberations. I was on a committee a year ago, and the discussions were great a year ago when we talked pro and con on certain guys. It's hard to criticize the people who were there when I wasn't there myself. I don't understand it."
Minoso is 86-years-old and will have to wait three years before the Golden Era Committee votes again.
