Miller: No Question, Williams Has To Catch The Ball

(WSCR) In a game that featured two anemic offenses, the Bears still had an opportunity to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.

With the Bears trailing 10-3 late in the fourth quarter, Caleb Hanie threw a pass to Roy Williams on the Bears 2-yard line. Hanie's pass deflected off Williams' hands and into the open arms of Jon McGraw, effectively ending any chance of a late-game rally.

"Roy Williams -- we always say guys have to step up and make it easier on a younger quarterback. Roy Williams has got to catch that ball," former Bears quarterback Jim Miller told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "I'm sorry, I don't want to put it on one player. I don't want to put the blame on anybody, but everybody else has to raise their level of play. Quite honestly, Roy Williams is far too seasoned of a player, and he's bobbled way too many balls. He's gotta make that catch and he's gotta get in the end zone. The score (would have bee) tied up and the Bears would've been right there."

While some are calling for a replacement for Hanie, Miller thinks the quarterback will succeed in time.

"Caleb can play better," Miller said. "Again, this is an opportunity for him whether he's going to sink or swim. I personally think the guy will swim. I think he's good enough to get it done for Chicago."
