Millennium Park To Raise Curtain On New Movie Screen
CHICAGO (CBS) -- First, Millennium Park had The Bean. Now it also has "the screen."
WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports it's the latest attraction at the park - a more than half-million dollar permanent LED screen, 40 feet wide and 22-and-a-half feet tall, on the stage of the Pritzker Pavilion.
Millennium Park Adds Movie Screen
It gets its public debut tonight, with the opening of the new free outdoor film series in memory of the late film critic Roger Ebert.
The series starts with the movie musical "Chicago."
Millennium Park chairman Donna LaPietra said the movie screen is one more reason to visit the park.
"Millennium Park is already one of the ten most popular tourist destinations in the country," she said. "Now, with this grand addition, it will literally raise the curtain on the world for all our visitors."
Millennium Park executive director Ed Uhlir said the movies won't have to start after dark.
"The images are intense, clear and refined from front-row seats to the back of the lawn, whether it is bright daylight or nighttime," he said.
Starting with the summer film series, the screen will be used to show free cultural and sporting events from around the world.
