The four floors, totaling 6,400 square feet, of living space used to house the Ward Observatory.

At the time it was built in 1898, the 22 story Ward headquarters on 6 N. Michigan Ave was the tallest building in Chicago, according to Chicago Architecture.

The residence was recently remodeled.

The penthouse has four bedrooms and 4.5 baths, along with 20 foot ceilings and a huge outdoor terrace.

When it was built, the building included a three-story pyramid and a weather vane, that stood atop of the current penthouse.

That structure was taken down years ago.

The building that once was the center of the Aaron Montgomery Ward's mail order empire is now 119 condo units with retail on the ground floor, including a Panera Bread and a Starbucks.

Ward was a big proponent of open park space and worked to protect the very land that can be viewed from the windows of the penthouse.
