Millennium Park Named One Of Best In World By Trip Advisor
By John Dodge
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago's status as a global city got another boost as Millennium Park was named to Trip Advisor's list of world's best parks.
The popular travel website collected review data on parks worldwide and Millennium was ranked No. 4.
The Top Five:
1) Stanley Park, Vancouver, British Columbia
2) Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs
3) Central Park, New York City
4) Millennium Park, Chicago
5) High Line, New York City
Millennium Park, was finished 10 years ago in 2004--four years late and over budget.
It was built to the north of the Art Institute over Metra and South Shore rail tracks. That train station sits under the park, making the rails a perfect way to get to the park from Indiana and the south suburbs.
The highlights include the Crown Fountain, which is a great place to watch kids (and a few adults) splash in the thin pool of water while waiting for a jet stream pour from the two glass columns.
Perhaps the most photographed spot in the park is Cloud Gate--known as the Bean--a stainless steel sculpture that reflects the Chicago skyline (and the people photographing it.)
The Lurie Gardens is a lush field of native plantings, and the Pritzker Pavilion is the focal point for concerts and other performances.
