Midway Airport Has Fewest On-Time Departures
CHICAGO (STMW) - Chicago's Midway International Airport airport has the worst on-time departure performance among major U.S. airports through August of this year, with almost three out of ten Midway flights departing at least 15 minutes late, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The department found that 71.3 percent of Midway's flights left on time in the first eight months of 2010, compared with 77.5 percent for the same period in 2009.
Chicago's O'Hare Airport ranked slightly better. Among O'Hare departures, 75.6 percent left on time in the first eight months of 2010, DOT found.
The best on-time departure rate was out of Seattle, Washington, where 89 percent of flights departed on time this year. Seattle also ranked first in on-time arrivals, at 86.5 percent.
Midway ranked 10th out of 29 airports in on-time arrival performance, at 80.6 percent. O'Hare came in 24th in this category, with nearly 76 percent of flights arriving on time.
Karen Pride, the city's department of aviation spokeswoman, had no immediate comment on the on-time performance at the airports.
