Michael Jordan Appeals For Calm In Wake Of Charlotte Protests
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Michael Jordan is appealing for calm following violent demonstrations that erupted in Charlotte after a black man was shot dead by a police officer.
The North Carolina native and Charlotte Hornets owner issued a statement on Thursday saying "it is more important than ever that we restore calm and come together as a community, in peaceful demonstration and conversation, and in constructive and non-violent ways."
Charlotte's police chief said Thursday he plans to show video of an officer shooting a black man to the slain man's family, but the video won't be immediately released to the public.
Chief Kerr Putney has said that 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott refused officers' repeated commands to drop a gun, but he said during a news conference that the video does not definitely show Scott pointing a gun at anyone.

"First, I want to express my condolences to the Scott family for their loss.
I also wish for a full recovery to those who have been injured.
In light of the tragic events of recent days, it is more important than ever that we restore calm and come together as a community, in peaceful demonstration and conversation, and in constructive and non-violent ways.
As part of the fabric of Charlotte, the Hornets organization is committed to working with civic leaders, our elected leaders and law enforcement to foster more trust, transparency and understanding so we can heal and grow together as a community."
