CHICAGO (CBS) -- Trains were halted on Metra's Union Pacific West line on Sunday afternoon, after a train struck and killed a person near the Oak Park stop.

Metra officials said it happened around 3 p.m. near the platform of the Oak Park station. The victim's age and gender were not immediately available.

Oak Park police said it appeared the incident was a suicide.

Extensive delays were expected Sunday afternoon for both inbound and outbound trains. Trains were moving again in both directions by about 4:30 p.m., but with some remaining delays of up to an hour. Some trains also were bypassing the Oak Park station Sunday evening.

The CTA said Green Line trains, which use the same railroad embankment, also experienced significant delays Sunday afternoon. Normal service was resuming shortly after 5 p.m.
