Metra U.P. West Trains Delayed For 'Strange Object'
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Several Metra trains were running late Friday evening and some others were canceled after a strange object was found on a train stopped near west suburban Glen Ellyn.
Union Pacific West Line Train No. 39, scheduled to arrive at Elburn at 5:15 p.m., was stopped near Glen Ellyn due to police activity, according to a Metra service advisory. The train was running again as of 6:20 p.m.
Glen Ellyn police confirmed a westbound train was stopped after a report of a "strange object" found on the train. It was not immediately clear what the object was.
Several other trains along that line were being delayed between 15 and 90 minutes as a result: Train No. 41, scheduled to arrive at Elburn at 5:35 p.m.; Train No. 45, scheduled to arrive at Geneva at 5:47 p.m.; Train No. 47, scheduled to arrive at Elburn at 6:14 p.m.; Train No. 49, scheduled to arrive at West Chicago at 5:55 p.m.; Train No. 51, scheduled to arrive at La Fox at 6:25 p.m.; Train No. 53, scheduled to arrive at Elburn at 6:45 p.m.; and Train No. 57, scheduled to arrive at Elburn at 7:06 p.m.
In addition, train Nos. 59 and 60 — which travel between Elmhurst and Chicago — have been canceled Friday evening due to delays and late arrival of equipment, an advisory said.
