Metra Train Strikes Vehicle On NW Side
CHICAGO (STMW) --A Metra train collided with a vehicle on the Union Pacific West Line Wednesday evening in the Old Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Outbound train No. 61, scheduled to arrive in west suburban Elburn at 7:33 p.m., stoped about 6:45 p.m. after it struck a vehicle at Kilbourn Avenue, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
No one was injured in the crash, according to Metra and Chicago Fire Department officials.
All inbound and outbound trains on the Union Pacific West Line were experiencing delays of up to 60 minutes because of the crash, according to Metra's website.
Train No. 61 was on the move again about 7:45 p.m. and operating 80 to 90 minutes behind schedule, the agency reports.
Outbound train No. 63, scheduled to arrive in Elburn at 8:06 p.m., and inbound train No. 66, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 9:46 p.m., were canceled becuase of the crash, according to Metra's website. Outbound train No. 65, scheduled to arrive in Elburn at 9:06 p.m., and inbound train No. 68, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 10:46 p.m., will accommodate passengers.
The CTA Green Line will accept Metra tickets until 10 p.m. for riders who wish to use it as an alternative, according to Metra's website.
