Metra Resumes Normal Service After Electric Line Sparks, Explodes

(CBS) – Metra electric train service experienced extensive delays overnight because of a fire sparked on a train line.
The Chicago Fire Department says an outbound train pulling into the 51st Street station in Hyde Park ran into an electrical problem. The incident took place about 50 yards from the station around 9:10 p.m. Saturday night.
CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports Metra resumed normal service Sunday morning. That is a different story from Saturday night where one set of tracks looked more like a fireworks show.
The fire was captured on cell phone video that showed bluish-green bursts of light shooting into the air from a distance. There were no reports of injuries.
Fire crews and first responders blocked off the area and checked on those inside the train. The incident at one time caused electric line delays of more than 2 hours.
"It was like a bunch of flashes on the train like the electric lines and the stuff like that and there was a bright huge light and everyone's getting to wondering like what's going on," said passenger Leon Viverette Jr.
"When I saw all of the trucks and fire people, I was like 'Wow this is really serous ordeal,'" said Jeanette Little Davis, whose son was on the train.
