Boy Dies After Stepping In Front Of Metra Train In Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- A 15-year-old boy apparently committed suicide by stepping in front of a Metra train in Lake Forest Monday morning, causing the Union Pacific North Line to be delayed for hours.
At about 6:50 a.m., inbound UP North Line train No. 314 struck the boy at Deer Path Road, just north of the Lake Forest station, according to a Metra spokesman.
Lake Forest police told the Sun-Times Media Wire the boy was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Oak Lawn. His death is under investigation, but appears to be a suicide.
The train, which had been scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:02 a.m., was stopped for about 45 minutes before it was able to continue. All inbound and outbound trains also were halted in the area, but service had resumed later Monday morning.
Outbound rain No. 309, which had been scheduled to arrive in Kenosha at 8:20 a.m., could not pass through the affected area and had to terminate in Highland Park, then bring commuters back to Chicago, Metra said.
As of 10:15 a.m., train No. 330, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 9:15 a.m., was operating 60 minutes behind schedule, according to Metra's website. Train No. 334, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 10:30 a.m., was operating 30 to 35 minutes behind schedule.
