Metra Train Collides With Semi-Truck, 2 Injured
BARTLETT, Ill. (CBS) – A Metra commuter train collided Monday with a semi-truck in Bartlett, derailing the train and causing problems with rail service through the evening.
The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on the Milwaukee West line at Oak Street and the railroad tracks in the western suburb.
The driver of the truck, which was transporting four automobiles, apparently was uninjured. Two train passengers were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, Bartlett police said.
The eight-car passenger train, which had been traveling eastbound toward Chicago, had 20 passengers aboard.
"Extensive delays" were expected for trains scheduled to travel in both directions, said Metra, whose crews worked late into the evening to clear the wreckage.
Outbound Milwaukee West trains were not operating past Roselle Monday evening, railroad officials said.
