Metra Service Resumes After Man Hit By Freight Train
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- Metra Union Pacific West Line trains have resumed service after a man was struck and killed by a freight train in west suburban Wheaton early Thursday.
An eastbound freight train struck the man on the Union Pacific tracks near North Hale Street, according to Wheaton police. The crash did not happen at a crossing.
Lt. Bob Miller of the Wheaton police said a Metra train crew called police about 7:20 a.m. after seeing the body between Washington and Chase, behind the Billy Graham Center Museum on the Wheaton College campus.
The 37-year-old man was dead on the scene, police said.
Trains on the West Line were running up to 70 minutes late.
Wheaton police are investigating.
