Metra Service Modified, Some Trains Canceled Due To Cold
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Metra canceled dozens of trains Tuesday and combined several other inbound and outbound routes on BNSF and Union Pacific lines as historically cold temperatures continued to wreak havoc on the rail system.
Five outbound trains and nine inbound trains on the BNSF line to and from west suburban Aurora were canceled, according to a service alert posted on Metra's website for Tuesday. Also, several other train routes were combined and delayed.
Also, four inbound trains were canceled on each of the the Union Pacific North, Northwest and West lines, the agency reports. At least three other train routes were modified on each line.
"Due to the continued hazardous weather conditions, Metra riders are advised that we will be operating modified schedules for [each of the train lines]," said a statement on Metra's website.
