Metra Police Sergeant Stabbed While Breaking Up Fight
(STMW) -- A sergeant with the Metra police department was stabbed in the right leg several times Saturday evening after he tried to break up a fight between at least two people at Union Station, officials said.
Just before 7 p.m. at least two people started fighting by the McDonald's restaurant on the upper level of the station at 500 W. Jackson Blvd., said Metra spokesman Tom Miller.
One of the people involved in the fracas turned on the transit police sergeant, stabbing him three times in the leg, Miller said.
The sergeant, whose injuries are not life-threatening, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.
"He seems to be doing OK," Miller said.
The sergeant's attacker was arrested at the station, Miller said. Charges against the attacker are pending further investigation by Amtrak police.
