Metra line halted in Chicago's northwest suburbs after train hits, kills pedestrian
DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- A Metra train struck a pedestrian in Des Plaines Monday evening, causing a major snag on the Union Pacific Northwest Line.
Metra warned that inbound and outbound UPNW trains were halted at Des Plaines as of 7:30 p.m. due to train No. 666 striking a pedestrian.
Des Plaines police said at 7:18 p.m., a 56-year-old Des Plaines man was struck by the train at 1501 Miner St. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died.
By the 9 p.m. hour, inbound and outbound trains were back running – but with extensive delays.
Metra police were investigating Monday night.
