Metra Conductor Attacked, Suspect Captured
(STMW) -- A Metra train conductor was battered during an attempted robbery Monday afternoon on the West Side.
The robber attacked and tried to rob one of the conductors either on Burlington Northern Santa Fe train No. 1268 or at the Western Avenue station, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.
Each train has at least one conductor plus an engineer who drives the train in a locked compartment, Reile said.
The injured conductor requested medical attention, Reile said. The nature of the injuries were not immediately known. A Fire Media Affairs spokesman said one person was taken with minor injuries to St. Anthony Hospital.
The attacker was captured at or near the station, and was in custody Monday evening, authorities said.
The inbound train left Aurora at 2:20 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive downtown at 3:42 p.m., Reile said. It stopped at the Western Avenue station about 3:25 p.m. and remained there for 56 minutes because of the attack.
Metra police are investigating.
