Normal Service Resumes On BNSF Railway After Pedestrian Killed By Freight Train
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Inbound and outbound Metra BNSF Railway service has resumed, after a freight train struck and killed a pedestrian Friday afternoon near west suburban Riverside.
Police said, around 12:45 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a freight train at the Cowley Road crossing on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Metra halted inbound and outbound trains on the BNSF Railway after the accident, and reopened one track shortly after 2 p.m. By 3 p.m., all Metra and freight train service resumed as normal.
Commuters should expect residual delays Friday afternoon, according to Metra.
