Metra Apologizes To BNSF Line Riders For Recent Delays
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Metra and the BNSF Railway are apologizing to riders, because of a series of delays on the BNSF commuter line over the past few weeks.
"We acknowledge that the on-time performance of the line is not up to our goals and our standards. It's just been a variety of different issues that have affected things," Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said.
Metra Apologizes For BNSF Line Delays
WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports BNSF trains were delayed for reasons ranging from severe weather to mechanical breakdowns to switching problems – many during rush hour.
"We've just had an unfortunate series of incidents in recent weeks, and that has had an impact," Gillis said.
Metra said the usual follow-ups won't do here.
"We are working with the top management at BNSF. We have engaged with them, and together we are making extra effort to sort of look at all these issues, and see what we can do to make things better," he said.
Officials posted a letter apologizing to riders on Metra's website.
