Men Sentenced For Breaking Into Motel Room, Sexually Attacking Woman
WOODSTOCK, Ill. (STMW) - A man who broke into a north suburban motel room and sexually assaulted a woman in 2009 was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday.
Robert J. Minerly, 35, was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison for home invasion and criminal sexual assault after pleading guilty to the charges, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff's office. Minerly received 10 years for each crime.
Minerly entered a room at the Crystal Lake Motel on Aug. 14, 2009, and climbed on top of a sleeping woman, the release said. He placed a rope around her neck from behind and began choking her.
The woman struggled with Minerly and was eventually gagged with a sock and sexually assaulted, the release said. Minerly then fled the scene.
He was linked to the crimes by the woman's description of a Toyota baseball cap worn during the assault and DNA evidence, the release said.
Crystal Lake police investigated.
