Men Rob South Side 7-Eleven, Slash Clerk With Machete

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police are looking for two suspects who used a not-so-ordinary weapon during a hold-up overnight on the South Side.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, the armed robbery took place around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at a 7-Eleven store in the 3200 block of South State Street.

Police say one of the two suspects used a large knife or machete to slash the lower right leg of the 48-year-old clerk.

Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli says the clerk was able to trip the burglar alarm.

The suspects ran off after grabbing cash from the register. They also apparently dropped the large knife nearby, and police recovered it.

The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.
