Memorial Service Held For Boy, 10, Killed In I-94 Crash
(CBS) -- Family and friends are remembering a boy who died in an accident on his way to a church event on.
It was a somber day at Saint Mary's Jacobite Church in Waukegan where a memorial service was held for 10-year-old Reeve Mathew.
He and another 11-year-old boy were thrown from the SUV they were riding in Saturday.
Four adults and another child were in the vehicle. They were on their way to Wisconsin when the driver hit a median wall on I-94 in Libertyville. It's not clear why the driver lost control.
Today Reeve's classmates, as well as former and current teachers were among those attending the memorial service.
"There was that twinkling in his eyes and his dimpled smile always made him a pleasure to have in class," said Claudine Mardehow, Reeve's second grade teacher. "Knowing that he wanted to be an altar boy, what I would like to say to his parents and his friends, neighbors classmates is that he is going to make a fine altar boy in heaven."
Police say the driver of the vehicle was cited for improper lane usage and child restrain violations.
