McKnight: Turco And 'Hawks Go For Four
By Connor McKnight--
When the Blackhawks go for four in a row Friday night against the Canucks, they'll do so with Marty Turco in net. It will be the first start in three games for Turco who has had a rough go lately. Turco gave up four goals on 28 shots in a loss to the Sharks on November 24th. His worst outing of the season, however, came on November 9th when he let up five goals on 27 shots.
"[Turco] is going back in," head coach Joel Quenneville said after Thursday's practice. "I think he's excited about getting back into the lineup. He hasn't played in a bit and I think we want to keep him going."
Quenneville has shown a propensity to go with the hot hand in net during his time in Chicago. Although Corey Crawford got the win in an ugly game against the Blues Tuesday night, it seems like a little distance between starts wouldn't be a bad thing for the rookie goaltender.
After the Hawks previous match up against the Canucks (a 7-1 win in Vancouver on November 20th) the Hawks were accused by Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault of running up the score. Just about everyone in the room after practice today shot that down without a second thought. "You don't expect to run up the score against a team like Vancouver," Jonathan Toews said. "Against St. Louis [we were] up 5-1, next thing you know it's 5-4 and in the third period. I don't think it matters. That's a team [Vancouver] that can easily get back into a game like that against us."
Joel Quenneville took an even more hard-line stance when asked about it saying, "I just know that our intentions were just the opposite of what we got accused of, from my point of view."
