McKnight: Campbell Returns To Practice, No Timeline For Return
By Connor McKnight--
Brian Campbell returned to practice for the first time since injuring his knee in the preseason. Campbell isn't quite ready for contact yet and speculation that he could return to game action over the weekend may be a bit premature. "I don't know about that," Campbell said. "I gotta get into shape here. I feel good here, like, recovery but [I'm] not in game-shape yet. It was my first day with the guys and it was a good challenge. I'm feeling better every day."
Yesterday Joel Quenneville thought Campbell could make it back over the weekend but now he seems to be pushing that estimate back a bit. "We'll see. We'll get a better indication as he progresses here this week. But, he's been moving along pretty well here but contact is a big other step for him and we haven't gotten there yet."
Tonight against the Kings, Hawks fans will see a completely new set of lines. Jonathan Toews will center Patrick Sharp and Jack Skille on line one while Tomas Kopecky will set up Marian Hossa and Troy Brouwer on line two. Line three will be Dave Bolland working with Patrick Kane and Viktor Stalberg.
Those are radical changes to a team that hasn't been pleased with its defensive performance. "I just think that we always emphasize our commitment to playing defense and thinking that if we check well we're going to be a better team," Quenneville said. "I think that's what we're reinforcing right now. After two disappointing and frustrating losses, having that mindset hopefully can get us back to where we need to be."
