McHenry County Woman Gets 4 Years For Stealing $185,000 From Employer

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (CBS) -- A woman is going to spend four years in prison for embezzling her employer in Algonquin.

As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Marsett reports, Clarissa Schauer, 40, of Cary, was convicted of felony theft for taking more than $185,000 over a period of four years from World Trans International.

Prosecutors said between December 2005 and September 2009, Schauer stole $185,741.48 from the company.

Her responsibilities there included dispersing checks to vendors of the company, but she instead issued the checks to herself, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.

In addition to her prison sentence, Schauer was ordered by a McHenry County judge to pay the company full restitution. Prosecutors said she was able to come up with only a small portion of the restitution prior to sentencing.
