McHenry County Sergeant Pleads Guilty To Abusing Child
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 10-year veteran of the McHenry County Sheriff's office on Friday pleaded guilty to bringing a child to Wisconsin, sexually abusing the child and then distributing the images on the Internet.
Gregory Pyle, 38, of Crest Hill, pleaded guilty Friday before U.S. District Court Judge Frederick J. Kapala in Rockford to crossing a state line with intent to engage in a sexual act with a person under the age of 12, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's office.
Pyle admitted that on Dec. 13, 2008, he had custody of a child when he drove from Crystal Lake to Milwaukee with the intention of engaging the child in sexual acts and "producing visual depictions" of the acts, the release said.
Pyle admitted that he stayed overnight in a Milwaukee hotel with the child and engaged in sexual acts that were "sadistic, masochistic, and violent," prosecutors said.
He then produced images of the acts and distributed them through the Internet.
Pyle -- a sergeant with a decade of service with the sheriff's office -- surrendered to Illinois State Police last year after a joint investigation by State Police and McHenry County officials into sexual assault allegations.
The sergeant was a member of the Illinois chapter of the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force -- a subset of the U.S. Department of Justice and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Pyle's sentencing is scheduled for April 14, the release said.
The penalty for the crime carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years and a maximum of life in prison, a period of supervised release, and a maximum fine of $250,000.
