Maywood Home Destroyed By Fire
MAYWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- A house fire early Thursday in west suburban Maywood left a home uninhabitable.
The fire started at 4:36 a.m. in the basement of a home at 1422 S. 21st Ave., according to Maywood Fire Dept. Lt. Soyna Thompson.
Thompson said the people who lived there were already out by the time crews arrived. No one was hurt.
The blaze spread to the first floor, causing the floorboards, especially near the small living room, to "cave in,'' the lieutenant said.
The home, which has a small upper level, is unlivable, and several items inside were also destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
