Maggie Daley, who was in Washington to receive a leadership award from the Kuwait-America Foundation, was taken Friday to Georgetown University Medical Center. The mayor's wife, who has been battling metastatic breast cancer since 2002, earlier had a cancerous lesion in her right leg and had a titanium rod inserted in it last March.

Her primary oncologist, Dr. Steven Rosen of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said Friday night he had been in touch with doctors at Georgetown, and they said initial tests showed no significant change in Maggie Daley's cancer, which he said has been stable for months. Rosen said he expected her to return to Chicago within several days.

"She was experiencing some bone discomfort that we felt was significant enough to warrant an immediate evaluation," Rosen said in a news release.

"We felt it was prudent for Mrs. Daley to be observed overnight with appropriate pain management," he said. "We expect her to return to Chicago in the next few days to be evaluated here at Northwestern."
