Matteson May Slash Police, Fire Budget
(CBS) -- Dramatic budget cuts could affect police and fire services for residents in the south suburb of Matteson.
CBS 2's Mike Parker reports.
This town of 20,000 is facing the real possibility of a 50 percent cut in police and fire services before long. Trustees faced an overflow crowd of concerned residents Monday evening.
The plan is to lay off 13 police officers out of 28 officer to save $1.2 million, and to lay off eight firefighter-paramedics to save another $1.5 million.
The village trustees have to come up with a final budget by May 1.
