Matt Garza On Cubs: Best Of Luck, But 'I'm Going To Try To Kick Their Teeth In'

(CBS) Former Cubs pitcher Matt Garza is back in the NL Central, signing a four-year, $50-million deal in the offseason with the Brewers, and as appreciative as he is of his past, he has a mission to accomplish against his former team.

"I wish them the best," Garza said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "But I like where I'm at, and I'm going to try to kick their teeth in every time I get a chance."

Garza spent nearly three seasons in Chicago before being traded to Texas before the deadline last summer. He doesn't hold any ill will toward the Cubs, expressing an understanding of why he departed Chicago.

"(The font office) finally put it like, 'Hey, we're rebuilding, don't get comfortable,'" Garza told the Sun-Times. "You just take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the time while you're there.

"I dealt with a lot there. A lot of positives and some negatives."

The Brewers are counting on Garza to be their staff ace in what figures to be a competitive NL Central that saw the Cardinals, Reds and Pirates advance to the postseason last year.
