Marmol: 'I'm Going To Put Us In The World Series'
(CBS) When Carlos Marmol entered the Cubs' home opener Monday, one day after losing his job as closer, Wrigley Field erupted with a resounding chorus of boos.
And rightfully so. Through his first three appearances of the 2013 season, Marmol gave up six hits and five earned runs in 1 2/3 innings for an ERA of 27.
After hearing the boos in his first appearance at home this season, Marmol shared his plan for the future.
''I'm going to put us in the World Series and make the fans happy again," Marmol said.
In fact, the 30-year-old reliever said the hometown boos didn't even phase him.
''I don't even listen," he said. "I hear the boos, but I don't take it in a bad way. I can't worry about that. They pay the money to see us, and they see a player not doing his job. . . . I'm not the first one or the last one. I'm fine. I'm trying to get people out.''
