Mark Prior Attempting Comeback With Dusty Baker's Reds
(CBS) Former Cubs pitcher Mark Prior is attempting another comeback -- this time with his former manager.
According to USA TODAY, the Cincinnati Reds signed Prior to a minor league contract Friday, reuniting him with Dusty Baker, the former Cubs manager who is sometimes blamed for the pitcher's arm troubles.
"He called me and asked for a chance," Baker said. "I talked to Walt (Jocketty). (Prior) says he feels good. He feels like he has some unfinished business.
"This gives him one more chance or a chance at closure."
Baker said he and Prior have remained close through the years. Prior hasn't pitched in the majors since 2006 and numerous comeback attempts have been thwarted by recurring shoulder problems.
In 2003, Prior went 18-6 with a 2.43 ERA with the Cubs and finished third in the Cy Young voting.
