Marinelli, Other Assistants Could Stay On Trestman's Staff
(CBS) Now that the Bears have their new head coach, the attention will quickly shift to the staff Marc Trestman hires.
Will any current coaches stay with the Bears?
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, "it's believed Trestman may keep some of Lovie Smith's assistants, most notably defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli."

Lovie's assistants still have a year remaining on their contracts and could be asked to fulfill those contracts. Special teams coach Dave Toub was already given permission to interview elsewhere and he ultimately jumped to the Kansas City Chiefs. But Trestman was hired to fix to the Bears' offense and since their isn't much wrong with the defense, it may make sense for him to keep Marinelli and keep some consistency on that side of the ball.
The Sun-Times also suggests quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates could stay on Trestman's staff because of his experience with the West Coast offense Trestman uses. Bates is a favorite of quarterback Jay Cutler and wide receiver Brandon Marshall, but when asked Dec. 31 if he thought Bates would stay on staff, Cutler responded: "I doubt it."
That, of course, was before the quarterback knew who would be hired as head coach. Stay tuned.
